“Boys are clueless,” said one girl at a fellowship retreat at campus. She meant they take a long time to see what’s before them. Do you agree?
Take my example, for instance. My wife Damalie was my friend for years before my eyes opened to the possibility of her being my wife. I was busy running after another girl, yet my future wife was my friend. Perhaps it was God’s doing because we were both under construction!
I think it’s a hard paper for a girl to love a man who doesn’t see her yet. In the Bible, it’s the man or his family who approaches the woman or her family for marriage. Even in the African culture, it’s awkward for a girl to approach a boy and confess her undying love for him.
In marriage, the man is the head of the family and he should be the one to make the first move. That’s how Jesus relates to His bride the church. He chose us. We didn’t choose Him. (John 15:16)
My dear sister, God knows you and cares about every detail of your life. If you allow Him to mould you into the woman He wants you to be, He’ll place you in the arms of the man who will treasure and cherish you for the rest of your life.
If a man is blind to see you, He doesn’t deserve you yet. You’re precious, and precious things don’t have to advertise or sell themselves. Like gold, they’re hidden and the seeker must go find them!
You’re more precious than gold in God’s sight.
Rather than hope and wait for a blind man to see, live your life and develop yourself to become a wonderful wife and godly mother-to-be. Perhaps when the man you like wakes up, he’ll see you if no one else has taken you. It’s better to be seen by the man whose eyes God has opened after his slumber than to say yes to one who wants you for the wrong reasons.
I’ve also seen girls who say yes to any man who comes along because they’re tired of waiting or because all their friends are married and they don’t want to be left behind. Sadly, their friends may go on to have happy marriages because they were in their right season while those who copied them fail to enjoy their marriages because they were in a hurry.
Marriage is for a lifetime, it’s worth waiting for.
Therefore, be at peace. Rest in the Lord. Never give in to desperation. Hide in the Lord so well, like the diamond under the earth, that the man who marries you will have to seek the Lord and receive His approval first.
My dear sister in the Lord, wait on the Lord. “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” (Psalm 27:14)
Let your delight be in Him and at the right time He will bring the man He has prepared for you. Remember the words of John the Baptist, “No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven.” (John 3:27)
As a child of God, you can be sure of this; “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28)
What God has given you will come to you. He makes everything beautiful in its time. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
