God can use unexpected means to provide for His people. As long as God has ordained a brook, bird or business to provide for His people in a certain season, nothing will stop Him. He can even multiply the little we have to be enough for us!
At every stage and state of your life, there is someone who desires to get where you are and have what you have because it represents success to them. At the same time, there is another who despises what you are and have because it represents failure.
Poverty mentality or materialism is the state of focusing on and craving for earthly possessions rather than seeking God’s kingdom first and focusing on heavenly things. As you’ll see shortly, some of us inherited the poverty mentality from our parents as we observed their habits and heard them talk about money. And the rest of it came from our experiences.
Nowadays, greed and coveting are clothed in ambition and drive to succeed. It’s respectable for a man to be preoccupied with getting his dream house, dream car or dream job at the expense of others – his family, company or country – without shame. The world cheers him on and calls him smart if has tangible possessions to show for it.
The desire to become rich and richer than others drives many people to work hard but this should never be what drives the life of a Christian. That’s what King Solomon observed and wrote, “…most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors. But this, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind.”
Thieves are those who earn or gain money and possessions through lies, deception and corruption. At the expense of others, they make themselves rich. Because of their greed, they murder others by denying them the worth of their sweat or the privilege they deserve.
