My wife, daughters, and I went for a cell fellowship one Tuesday evening.
When we returned to our house, we discovered someone had broken the padlock of the metallic door.
I entered the house and realized the laptop, camera, and other things were missing. That day, I understood why people beat thieves to death. The terror and pain of being robbed were thorough.
We hate robbers who steal what we own, but the worst robber is the one who keeps from us what belongs to us without force or violence.
A quick example would be politicians who embezzle public funds rather than use them to put drugs in hospitals, build roads, help farmers, and create jobs, among other services.
False church ministers do the same, only in this case, the consequences don’t just end here but continue into eternity. Physical goods stolen can be replaced but how do you replace spiritual goods?
Such ministers keep us in the dark of all the wonderful truths God wants us to know and we walk through life blind, bound and begging.
Listen to what Jesus said;
“…I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.
All who came before me were thieves and robbers.
But the true sheep did not listen to them.
Yes, I am the ate. Those who come in through me will be saved.
They will come and go freely and will find good pastures.
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy.
My purpose is to give them a rich
and satisfying life.
“I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.
A hired hand will run when he sees a wolf coming.
He will abandon the sheep because they don’t belong to him and he isn’t their shepherd. And so the wolf attacks them and scatters the flock. The hired hand runs away because he’s working only for the money and doesn’t really care about the sheep.”
(John 10:7-13)
Did you notice the enemy who comes to steal, kill and destroy in John 10:10 is not Satan but the hired shepherd or false minister who doesn’t care about the sheep? He sneaks over the wall to deceive, exploit and destroy the sheep and quickly deserts them when they’re attacked or no longer in need of them.
Of course, Satan uses false ministers, but we don’t see it because they masquerade as true ministers, just as Satan manifests himself as an angel of light. (2 Corinthians 11:13-15)
Apostle Paul wrote this about the Church;
“I am writing these things to you now,
even though I hope to be with you soon,
so that if I am delayed,
you will know how people must conduct themselves in the household of God. This is the church of the living God, which is the pillar and foundation of the truth.”
(1 Timothy 3:14-15)
Christ expects His Church to teach, defend, and walk in the whole counsel of His truth because it’s the only antidote to the world’s lies, deception, heresies and powers of darkness. (John 8:31-32, 1 Timothy 3:15, Acts 20:27)
Yes, the lies are many.
However, just as a thorough knowledge of an original banknote helps a banker identify different fake notes, one divine truth can chase away a thousand lies.
When we know the truth as revealed in the Bible, lies scatter!
Sadly, some men of God teach what people want to hear and keep them from what they need to hear. They’re robbers, whether or not they realize it.
Let me say it again: the worst robber is not the one who steals what you have but denies you access to what belongs to you.
The trademark of false teachers is to omit or add to the truth. They don’t tell people the whole truth or counsel of God’s Word, or they say the truth but add other man-made requirements that bring bondage, yet truth brings freedom, joy, and right living.
To make matters worse, some preachers claim to possess secret and deep knowledge or truths that were left out of the Bible. While it’s true that much about God and the spiritual world is unknown and beyond our understanding, the Bible provides a clear revelation of all that is necessary for us to know in this life.
Just as Satan deceived Eve about getting special wisdom after eating the forbidden fruit, false denominations and churches start because of extra revelations from ‘God’s voice’, angelic visits, divine visions, deep revelations or dramatic dreams.
For example, Apostle Paul went to the third heaven where he;
“…heard things so astounding that they cannot be expressed in words,
things the human is not allowed to tell.”
(2 Corinthians 12:4)
As if to claim the same authority as Paul, some Christians today teach about their visits to heaven and hell. Some even contradict each other. But what value do they add to someone’s spiritual growth and maturity?
Paul could have written about his experiences, but he didn’t because it wasn’t paramount for us to know. He could have started a ministry called Third Heaven Mysteries Manifested International, but he didn’t!
Our focus should be on Christ crucified and the true Gospel revealed in the Bible. What is written is enough to guide and help us live godly lives.
Moses wrote;
“The LORD our God has secrets known to no one.
We are not accountable for them,
but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us,
so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.”
(Deuteronomy 29:29)
We must resolve to live by the truth of the scriptures, even if it means standing alone or sinking with the lukewarm church and the wicked.
Some of our dear men of God are zealous in trying to do the right thing and help people, but their lack of knowledge and discipleship in their spiritual upbringing harms more than it heals.
They’re like a doctor who treats the wrong disease. He may give temporary relief, but the disease persists. Sadly, the patient walks away thinking all is well, yet their situation is getting worse.
In a nutshell, false ministers rob their followers of the truth, time, money, relationships, and in the worst-case scenario, make it harder for them to enter heaven. That’s what Jesus condemned saying;
“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law
and you Pharisees. Hypocrites!
For you shut the door of the Kingdom of Heaven in people’s faces.
You won’t go in yourselves,
and you don’t let others enter either.
“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law
and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you cross land
and sea to make one convert,
and then you turn that person into twice the child of hell you yourselves are!
(Matthew 23:13-15)
Perhaps they don’t know what they’re doing because they’re blind guides leading the blind, but the negative consequences on their sheep won’t be forgiving. (Matthew 15:14)
Other ministers are motivated by money. Ministry for them is a career or source of income at the expense of the souls of men and women. They make up testimonies, dreams and stories to get hold of their sheep’s money. (2 Peter 2:3)
The saddest thing is that the sheep believe the wrong shepherd all their lives, always learning but never coming to the knowledge of the truth.
Please be alert always. Don’t trust every sermon you hear. Don’t trust any person more than you trust Christ. Don’t regard anyone as your teacher or father more than God the Father, Son and Spirit.
Be a Berean in your generation.
Of the Bereans, the Bible says;
“And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica,
and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.”
(Acts 17:11)
Even as you read my content, examine what you read. I certainly don’t know or understand everything. Please don’t believe everything I say or use my experiences as the standard. Who am I but a seeker of truth and a fellow sojourner to heaven?
Instead, believe the one who inspired the writing of every word in the Bible and dwells in Christians to teach and guide them into all truth. His name is the Holy Spirit.
I’m only a vessel passing on God’s Word. You may not like some truths I write, but if God wants you to hear them, please choose His truth, NOT my truth, your truth or the truth of anyone else!
Jesus said;
“Heaven and earth will disappear,
but my words will never disappear.”
(Luke 21:33)
Do you believe the Words of Jesus over the words of your man of God? Do you study the scriptures daily and examine what you hear?
When men of God rob in the name of Christ, they become the worst robbers on the face of the earth because they take from you the eternal truths and destiny you can never recover.
