Are You a SILENT Parent Or Church Leader In The Fight Against HIV Infections Among The Youth?|World AIDS Day
“AIDS takes a life every minute.” Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General.
Weekly HIV infections in Uganda are 1,100, 64% female and 36% male, according to the New Vision today.
These infections affect the physical, emotional, mental, social and financial health of those infected and their families.
My concern is that World AIDS Day may just be another day for some parents and churches yet HIV/AIDS affects all of us.
The youth are our responsibility as parents and religious leaders. The government and our schools are doing what they can with the resources they have, but the bigger burden of protecting our youth falls on the shoulders of parents and the church.
I call upon parents and the local churches to make the most of this day as a catalyst to sensitize and educate their children and youth on the benefits of abstinence and the ugly consequences of sexual immorality.
That’s our duty as watchpersons for the youth.
God says,
“18 If I warn the wicked, saying, ‘You are under the penalty of death,’ but you fail to deliver the warning, they will die in their sins. And I will hold you responsible for their deaths.
19 If you warn them and they refuse to repent and keep on sinning, they will die in their sins. But you will have saved yourself because you obeyed me.” Ezekiel 3:18-19
Let’s not keep silent! Parents, please speak to your children. Also, encourage your church to organize discussions on topics about fornication, cohabiting, pornography, masturbation and STDs among others.
Let’s give our young people safe places to open up about their struggles and be prepared to give them solutions.
If we don’t speak up, the wicked world is speaking to our youth and winning their hearts. What account shall we give to God regarding our stewardship of the children and youth He has entrusted to us?
At Pass On Leadership Africa blog, we’ve written the following helpful articles to educate the youth and equip parents and youth leaders with the information they need to guide, correct and warn our youth on this vital topic of sexuality;
Recently, we printed 50 copies of our book Sex Smart Family, four are remaining. We’re yet to print Sex Smart Single due to financial constraints. If you’re able to support financially the printing of these books ($2.5 and $1.5 respectively when printing 1000 copies), kindly reach out to us; info@passonleadershipafrica.org, WhatsApp at +256 775 585 708 or register HERE.
Please share this article with other parents and church leaders.
Thank you.
Shalom.
