To live a pure life, a single Christian needs a plan to overcome sexual temptations and deal with sexual sins. Every battle needs a strategy, every game needs a game plan!
Victory is neither an accident nor a loner. It takes outside help from God and others to win and maintain the win!
A few months after I left campus, I travelled to Kigali and on my way back to Kampala I sat next to a beautiful girl I had not met before. We talked for most of the journey and exchanged contacts on arrival.
One night I dreamt of dogs chasing me to bite my heels. The next day she called me to meet up. I had the same dream two other times in the next weeks before she called me the next day. With these vivid dreams, I sensed an evil attack was imminent.
I kept excusing myself as being too busy to meet until she stopped calling.
I believe avoiding her saved me from a lot of regrets and trouble. Who knows, she could have been a devil’s agent sent to eliminate me! That’s a scary possibility!
A plan is a detailed proposal or course of action to win a battle! Our battle in this case is to stay sexually pure and overcome sexual temptations.
As Christians, we’re in a battle against TWO ENEMIES; our sinful nature and the devil who is at work in the world!
God deals with our sinful nature when we become disciples of Christ who are doers of God’s Word. He gives us a new nature and we become a new creation. (2 Corinthians 5:17) But because we’ve lived in the sinful nature all our lives, learning to be controlled by the Spirit takes time and daily surrender to God’s will.
Then, as we learn to study, meditate and obey His word we grow spiritually and become more like Christ. (2 Corinthians 3:18, Romans 8:29)
We defeat Satan by submitting ourselves to God and using God’s Word we’ve hidden in our hearts. (James 4:7, Psalms 119:11) The truth in our hearts counters or rejects Satan’s lies and God exposes his schemes against our lives.
That’s what gets Satan to flee. It’s not how much we say no, how many prayers we say or how many times we go for deliverance prayers. Only Christ and His Word can set you free.
Back to the FLEE Plan.
The FLEE Plan is a practical strategy for overcoming the 18+ sexual sins or immorality and living in sexual purity.
It’s a strategy about leaving the negative things that stimulate or trigger sexual lust and cleaving to the positive things and biblical truths that build character, holiness and godliness.
It’s a two-winged plan. LEAVE and CLEAVE! If you attempt to fly with one side, you’ll not go far.
The FLEE is an acronym that stands for Fight, Leave, Engage and Embrace;
Here is a summary of each point.
#1: FIGHT the 19 lies about sex through knowing and living by every truth of God’s Word. (Read the article Fight The Lies About Sex Fast|1 Truth Expels 1,000 Lies)
#2: LEAVE anything that triggers/stimulates sexual lust in your mind and heart, then cleave to everything that encourages you to honour God with your body. (Read the article Leave The Sexual Stimulators Now|Guard Your Heart)
#3: ENGAGE prayer without ceasing. Spend time alone to meditate and pray every day so you may not fall into temptations. It takes God’s strength and grace to overcome temptations. (Read the article Engage Prayer To Overcome Sexual Temptations| Time For Spiritual Warfare)
#4: EMBRACE godly friendships that create an atmosphere of honest discussion, encouragement, accountability and growth. (Read the article Embrace Godly Friends To Keep Sexually Pure|4 Friends To Cutt Off)
The FLEE Plan is inspired and demonstrated by JOSEPH’s life!
Potipher’s wife desired to have sex with him so bad she forced herself on him when they were two in the room. Joseph decided to FLEE and left his cloak in her hands. (Read his story in Genesis 39)
Are you ready to FLEE?
In the coming weeks we shall go deeper into each point of the FLEE Plan. Please SUBSCRIBE for immediate updates.
This is our goal according to 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5;
“God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor — not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways.”
