The devil is a liar, but he is a predictable liar!
Someone who knows the truth of God’s Word can detect, discern and dodge his lies! Once the truth is known and received, the power of lies is broken.
When banks train their workers to detect fake notes, they don’t collect all the fake notes in the country and study them. Instead, they focus on the original banknotes and study them thoroughly. That way, when the bank worker sees, touches and smells a fake note, they can easily identify it.
In the same way, a Christian should focus on knowing Truth. Jesus Christ is the Truth. He is the Word and Wisdom of God. (Colossians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 1:24)
Jesus says, “But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!” (John 15:7)
Remember, the battlefield against sin is in the mind.
If we win in the mind using the living and powerful truth of God’s Word, we’ll become winners in our character, conversation and conduct!
We must guard our hearts in every way and means possible because winning in sexual matters is a battle for our souls. (Proverbs 4:23)
If you’ve noticed, the world is strategic, consistent and aggressive at sharing lies even without our permission. Satan has his agents everywhere, whether they know it or not.
They use social media, Tv, movies, music, books, etc. They spread their ideas in subtle ways by bringing sensual scenes in movies or portraying homosexual characters as normal and wonderful people. They plan to desensitize us about sin.
My brother shared with me a drama series to watch but after a few episodes, I could not continue. The nudity and adultery in the series were so bad I felt disgusted and deleted it.
As Christians, we’re in great danger if we see the filth on Tv, Tiktok, movies, and feel nothing. That means we’ve accepted and conformed to the standards of the world rather than be transformed by the renewing of our minds. (Romans 12:2)
The Psalmist asks, “How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word… I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:9,11)
Our weapon to fight against lies is TRUTH. One truth can expel 1,000 lies! I know this because the truth from God’s Word is alive, active and a double-edged sword that cuts off the lies we believe in every aspect of our lives. (Hebrews 4:12)
Jesus says, “I am the Truth. If you love me, abide in me and keep my words, you’ll know the truth and the truth will set you free from all bondage and lies!” (My paraphrase of John 8:31-32)
For instance, the truth that fornication is a sin against God destroys many lies the devil throws at you. The fact that God says it’s wrong is enough to keep a single person pure.
The Word of God is called the sword of the Spirit! It slays the lies of the devil before they land and they take root in our minds! Notice that the sword is an offensive and defensive weapon.
When the devil tempted Christ, it was the Word written in the Torah and hidden in His heart that brought Him victory.
To every temptation of Satan, Jesus answered, “It is written.”
The writer of Hebrews says, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” (Hebrews 4:12)
Even more, the Words of Jesus are spirit and life. (John 6:63) Isn’t that amazing!
Did you know in moments of temptation, the Holy Spirit searches the Word you’ve hidden in your heart and brings it to your remembrance?
Yes, He does.
But if He searches an empty mind, there is nothing to be reminded of. Isn’t it sad that we store the names of football players and all kinds of rubbish from social media and movies but have no time or space left in our heads to memorize the Word of God?
Lord forgive us and have mercy!
Every success in our spiritual walk directly depends on the amount of truth we have hidden in our hearts.
We’re in a serious battle! I say again, it’s a battle for the eternity of our souls.
Apostle John had this to say to young people, “I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.” (1 John 2:14) Are you overcoming the evil on in your life now?
Jesus said, “…People do not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)
Our inner person (spirit and soul) needs the Word of God daily as our physical body needs food daily. How often do you feed your inner person?
Without the nourishing Word of God, a Christian is finished, toast and spiritually dying!
Knowing and hiding the truth in our hearts is only half of the fight. Some Christians know a lot about the Bible and can challenge you on many scriptures. That’s no big deal because even the devil knows enough scriptures to quote and deceive his victims.
The other half of the battle against sexual sin is to live by every truth we know. The devil and his children can’t obey a single scripture.
Obedience to God is the most powerful weapon we’ve got. We must choose to please Him above everything and everyone else. And it takes faith to obey even when it doesn’t make sense or the stakes are high.
Apostle James says we deceive ourselves when we listen and don’t do. We’re like someone who looks in the mirror and immediately forgets how they look. (James 1:22-27)
God’s love for you and me is a sure deal. He loved us before we were even born and clearly demonstrated His love when Christ died on the cross. The issue is not whether He loves you, but whether you’ll reciprocate His love for you.
Apostle John says, “If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth.” (1 John 2:4) This means we show our love for God through our obedience to His instructions.
But we can’t obey what we don’t know. And the Holy Spirit can’t remind us of what we’ve not heard or hidden in our hearts. So, let’s discipline ourselves and cleave to God as we;
– Study our Bibles daily. Reading one verse daily is better than reading no scripture.
– Listen to biblically sound teachings. Many are available on websites and YouTube.
– Attend a church, cell and fellowships where the Word is shared!
And as we cleave to the above spiritual disciplines, we must also leave the things that contaminate us by exercising self-control;
#1: Stop listening to secular music and watching ungodly movies
They’re full of curse words, immorality and other sins that ignite sinful desires in our hearts. Every post on social media is passing on ideas that are true or false. Please keep away from the false and stick to what is true. (1 Thessalonians 5:21)
#2: Stop spending most of your time with friends who believe and live contrary to your Christian beliefs
Their company will corrupt your good conduct. You may study or work with them but never participate in their evil ways or go to places where they engage in sin. (Psalms 1)
#3: Exist social media platforms and WhatsApp groups where people share ungodly content
If they’re not building you, they’re contaminating, stagnating and destroying you.
When it comes to doing right, be as bold as a lion but when it comes to doing evil, be a coward as a puppy!
Apostle Paul says,
“… I want you to be wise in doing right and to stay innocent of any wrong.” (Romans 16:19)
Here is a sweet verse to memorize. “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)
The truth of God’s Word is powerful. One single truth can chase a thousand lies.
Get truth. Get wisdom.
I live you with one more verse from the wisest man and king who ever lived;
“Wisdom is the principal thing;
Therefore get wisdom.
And in all your getting, get understanding.”
(Proverbs 4:7 NKJV)
