Do Christians Need The Wisdom Of Ungodly Successful People?
Do Christians Need The Wisdom Of Ungodly Successful People?
It is disgraceful and disappointing when a Christian minister brings the teachings or philosophies of the world into the church.
One famous apostle from West Africa has a sermon online on lessons from the wisdom of Egypt, and another from East Africa recently stated that he has been studying other religions, including Freemasons, and realized there are things Christians can learn from them.
Well, that’s conforming to the customs of this world instead of renewing our minds and being transformed by the Scriptures. Eve, in Genesis, was tempted to eat the forbidden fruit because of the wisdom it would give her. (Genesis 3:6)
The Bible says;
“Let no one deceive himself. If any of you thinks he is wise in this age, he should become a fool, so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness.” And again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”
1 Corinthians 3:18-20
Regarding what a Christian needs to flourish in this life, the Bible states;
“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.”
2 Peter 1:3
God’s definition of success and greatness differs from that of the world. In fact, what the world loves, praises, and promotes is detestable before God. (Luke 16:15)
Jesus said the greatest man in the Old Testament was John the Baptist, a man who didn’t have a family, a great ministry, nice clothes, or powerful connections. He was great because he served and completed God’s assignment for His life. That, my fellow Christian, is what makes you great.
Why should we pursue what the world seeks – pleasure, possessions, popularity, promotions, and positions? Why do we admire the ungodly? Should we be copying them, or should they be imitating us as we imitate Christ?
One of the temptations faced by the nation of Israel was to compare themselves to and desire to be like the surrounding nations. Often, they would run to these nations when in trouble or intermarry with them in times of peace, something that greatly displeased God.
That’s called prostitution, according to the Bible, when God’s people leave the sacred and cleave to the secular.
Jesus Christ is enough for a Christian. He is Truth and brought truth. He is also the wisdom of God. All we need is in Him and from Him. We should have nothing to do with the wisdom of the world because it’s contaminated with lies and corrupted by sin.
Remember, rat poison is mostly good food, and it’s the little poison that kills the rat. Never underestimate the little lies you hear from ungodly content or the pulpit because it can destroy your life, family, finances, or career.
Have we exhausted the wisdom in the Bible to start foraging from the world’s wisdom?
If you desire to succeed God’s way that will matter in eternity, the first and most important book you need is the Bible. Anything that doesn’t agree with the Bible is a lie and doesn’t deserve your attention. Anyone who doesn’t believe in or live by the Bible can’t counsel you on how to live a life that pleases God.
Apostles and pastors who point Christians to secular authors, musicians, psychologists, and philosophers are blind guides leading the blind into a pit.
As for you, dear Christian, study your Bible, meditate on its teachings, and apply them to your daily life.
With God as your loving Father, Jesus as your good Shepherd, and the Holy Spirit as your Teacher and Counsellor, you have all you need for life and godliness.
